Inconsistent Exports

Am I the only one who is experiencing inconsistent results from the exact same export?  I have run a specific export multiple times and keep getting a different number of rows exported.  The quickest it has run has been 3+ hours. I can't keep rerunning since it ties up RE while exporting.

I am not using a Query (our consultant wants everyone in the database).  I am also asking for A LOT of information (89 columns). 

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I can’t address the inconsistent results in Export, but have you tried logging in to a second, simultaneous session, to enable you to work in the system while it’s grinding away on your export?  At least if you’re locally hosted, once you’re logged in, you can go back to the desktop and double-click (or right-click and open) the Raiser’s Edge icon and start a second session (assuming that you have enough licenses to support this).  You may well know this already, but at one time I didn't, and I was more than a little surprised to learn that more than one "me" could be using the system at the same time.

As far as your inconsistent results go even if you are not using a query with the export - do others have rights to it? Perhaps someone is changing the head of household processing or the inactive, deceased, no valid address triad options. Is someone else adding/deleting records as you are exporting? I've experienced columns shifting order from what I set up in the export (not for a while) but never this.


I have some exports that run that long - sometimes if they are old I rebuild them and that helps. Otherwise, I plan accordingly. When we were self-hosted I would do what James offered for an answer. I stumbled upon that very early on as I was helping impatient Luddites with slow computers (I say this with affection and appreciation) when I first started working here and they would have a number of windows open. Now that we are hosted and have NXT - I might plan an NXT project, or log into another computer with another login and do another project. I plan to run these before meetings and lunches or sometimes overnight.

I just had the same issue with a large export and it was because people were changing data while the export was running.  If you can have everyone behave as view only while the export is running, I think that would solve it.
