Export gifts using GL Post Date exports incorrect date?

Options
I just noticed that when I export gift query details that include the GL Post Date, the date that is populated in the field is actually the date the record was added.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Example: Gift record records a gift on 3/28/1996, but when I export the records and request the GL post date, the date on the row displays 7/22/2003.  I looked at the record properties and the latter date is the date the record shows to be added.

Is there anything I can use other than outputting both dates to confirm that the GL post date that is displayed correctly?

"...the date that is populated in the field is actually the date the record was added." Do you mean the date the gift record was added? That's what post date will generally default to unless you specify another date.

" the record properties and the latter date is the date the record shows to be added."  Do you mean the Gift record, gift tab Miscellaneous where the GL post status and post date are displayed?  Record properties is referencing the date the constituent record was added. It's not the gift properties.

I'm wondering if you selected the wrong date field in your query.  I've not heard of gift record pulling a post date equal to record added date. Don't know that you could even set it to do that in configuration.

I should have said do you have the right date field selected in your export. If you are using a query taken to the Export function, it's in Export that you need to select the export fields.

I have the right dates.  I suspect that these records must have been manually entered a long time after the actual date.  The system is just not able to pull a GL post date since there isn't one, so it appears that it is automatically added the date the gift record was actually entered instead of the gift date on the record.

Could be. GL post date is a required field for all our gifts. So there is no GL post date entered on these gift records and Export is pulling the constituent record date instead? Interesting.

Post date auto fills with gift date entered for me.

You could export data, change/copy over gift dates to GL post date field, import data back in if you need them changed. Or do global change if you have large #s of gifts needing the same date. Might be lots of work.
