Instructions on importing updates to existing records in RE using Alumnifinder CSV File and Constituent ID#

Options
Hello there,

Has anyone done this? If so, would you have any instructions on doing this that you could share with me? This is my first time and I have over 27,000 records to update and I'm quite scared.

Thank you for any feedback!

    Hi Gina,

I would start by taking a look at the data you want to import and think about where it goes in a record (ie- Business info or Education info) then look at the import tables for that information. That will give you your headers to put the info in the right field and tell you what id's you need to get it there. If you upload a row from your spreadsheet, I would be happy to take a look and try to help you with the column headers.

    Hi Gina,

I import updated address, phones, etc., from sources other than BB.  First, become familiar with your column headers; you can find that information under "fields" in RE Help Topics (address fields, constituent fields, education fields, etc.)   Test only 2 records at a time to make sure your data is going where you want it to go.  It is much easier to fix 2 records than 27,000.  Let your boss know you need a good chunk of time where no one interrupts you so you can really wrap your brain around the import procedures.  Use tech support at BB.  They are the Bomb!!  They can screen share with you, talk you though issues, problem solve, and I believe they have waterproof shoulders for those times you just need a good cry while in the midst of  import/refresh purgatory.

    All the best,

    Donna
