Getting a "cookies" error message!

Options

Grrr! I'm getting an error message that says, "You must enable cookies for this web site to function properly." I don't really understand why this message is coming up now when it never has before. Can anyone please guide this cookie monster out of her cookies debacle?

Thanks!

PS - In case it's helpful for diagnosis, this issue happens on many of the sub-pages of www.fidodoesferndale.org.

  • One of your browser preferences must have changed to not allow cookies. The link below will help you enable these on your browser.

In the meantime, the reasons Convio needs cookies enabled are noted below:

    Browser Cookies

There are three cookies used by the Convio system:

The "Remember Me" mechanism stores a permanent cookie containing an informationless token, which is used to identify returning registered users of the site. This token is matched against the database. This function is inoperable if cookies are disabled.

The email delivery mechanism uses stored cookies to identify unique email clients who open or click through from a mass email (Communication, Action Alert, etc.). If cookies are disabled, or the email client uses an HTML engine that does not support cookies (e.g. Eudora) this feature will not work; this introduces a small error into the statistics reported to the Convio administrator.

The Java application server on which the Convio software runs will push a temporary cookie in order to track a user's session from page to page. If cookies are disabled, session tracking continues to operate - the system will fall back to encoding the session information in URLs. This mode may result in loss of the session context if the user navigates away from the Convio site.

  • It still doesn't make sense to me why one couldn't take action even if cookies are disabled.

I just received a phone call from a supporter who said he refuses to allow cookies but, as such, cannot send a message to his congressional representative. I don't understand why cookies would prevent him from being able to take action. According to the description below, it makes sense that cookies would keep the following from working:

    1. Remember Me

    2. Auto login

    3. Session tracking

But none of those seems to explain why the mapping can't work based on the information provided in the form.

Can someone please explain to me why disabling cookies prevents someone from being able to take an action?

    Thanks!
