Gift not committing through batch

Options
Hi everyone,

I've searched the community for this issue, but have not found anything.  We are self hosted on 7.96.6401.8 and have run into an issue.  Since upgrading to 7.96 in March, we've had an issue twice where the first record in a gift batch has not committed.  The record shows in the validation report and there are no exceptions shown, however, the dollar amount and number of records in the batch do not match.  I'm really at a loss to why this may be happening.  Our gift assistant didn't notice the error in numbers and committed the batch, which in turn, made our reconciliation with finance off sad  I've spoken to her and hope she will be more vigilant in verifying the batch information, but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this and, hopefully, resolve it before it happens again.

Thanks everyone, in advance, for your thoughts and guidance.

Barbara

  • She's entering the first gift in the first line of the batch, which will not be picked up when you commit. Check out the dollar total of my batch. It's excluding the first gift.

Thanks Aaron, but that's not the problem.  The gift that doesn't commit is on the second line, the first line is the default line which is blank.  EDIT:  The batch stats are correct, but the 2nd gift that's listed as $100 doesn't commit to the donor's record.  When we run a query on batch #... that $100 isn't there sad

  • Hi Barbara-

Have you tried to recreate the scenario you've described from scratch and as such have personally seen that the first gift does not commit? The only reason I ask this is because the situation I described will reliably result in the exact symptoms you've described. The experience you just mentioned, which is that the batch totals are correct, there are no exceptions, but Batch decides to skip the gift on the first line and it does so in random batches, seems very unlikely. I would want to see that with my own eyes before I would believe it.

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks again for your explanation.  I just recreated the scenario and of course all gifts got committed as they should have. frown  This is so random, I'll have to wait till it happens again, and, hopefully, she will tell me when it happens and not wait a week for me to find out.

Thanks again and have a nice rest of the week and weekend.

    Barbara

    Barbara,

Please be sure to post if it is a recurring problem. I'm going to have to start watching my reports more carefully. If my total in batch is the expected amount, I admit I don't always look at batch control report to see if it is also the same.
