How are you handling of Email opt in opt outs in LO and RE?

We have recently migrated to Luminate Online and use Raisers Edge as our main database. We are trying to figure out the best approach to handle email opt outs or opt in from LO and keep the RE data fresh and up to date. We have found that some donors are opting in and out and back in again.

    We use Luminate and RE is our main database.  Any opt outs or opt in from Luminate will sync down in to the RE/LO connect and then we process them from there.  If you opt out someone in RE it will sync up to Luminate.  HOWEVER (and I just found this out after years of doing this) if you opt in someone in RE, it will NOT sync up to Luminate.  You have to manually update Luminate.  I don't know why, I found out by chance when I was adding some emaill addresses in RE and changing them to opt in.  Then went to their record in luminate to add them to my group and the opt out was still checked.  I spoke with BB support, didn't get a great explanation and ask them why isn't this mentioned anywhere in documentation and how are they going to fix all my records.  Still waiting for a response.

    Was just hoping for some feedback re: the process of a constituent opting in (or not). Currently we have an opt-in on all our forms (event registration, donation, eNews sign up). If someone has previously opted in to receive communications, and then comes back to our site for a second transaction, and they don't opt in (because they already consider themselves a subscriber), the system treats this as an unsubscribe. 


    I was just wondering how everyone else manages this!
