Why do my Email Interest Opt-In/Out Groups show a Last Built of a long time ago?

Options

By default, email interest opt-in/out groups are never rebuilt. Instead, constituent records are put into the appropriate groups when they opt in/out of interests. Because constituents are put into the groups in real time, the groups almost never need to be rebuilt. So these dates you are seeing are completely accurate.

  • This answer seems to be correct, but then why is it that, if you want an opt-in/out group to go with an email interest, the system automatically generates a Task to rebuild the group? The Task rebuilds the group and creates a ToDo list, so the client can review the group, but since it contains all the members of the group, not just the new ones, it is pretty useless.

  • A long, long time ago, the interest groups were updated by a task. That process caused some server load problems which is how we got to the point of updating the groups "live" instead of through a task. That task (and the to do list it creates) are remnants of the previous process.

The task itself could not be removed when we changed how these groups are handled as it is used in at least one part of the system. In this case, I know that the task is used to rebuild the interest opt-in/out groups if you select to "rebuild on send" when sending an email to the interest opt-in/out groups.

  • Jeana:

Then, is there a reason to have any interest group tasks active? We have both the opt-in and opt-out tasks active for all e-mail interests. But, if I'm reading your reply correctly, there is no reason to use them.

  • Linton,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. There is no reason to have the tasks active. With the task in either state the Interest Opt In/Out groups will function just fine.

    Thank you,

    Jeana
