WebTrends Analytics 8

Options

Our company wants to use WebTrends 8 for analytics, but from all I can tell, and from the advice of a sister company who uses it, it appears Convio may be near impossible to set up to track donations/conversions with all of the extra meta tags that need to be inserted in each different step.

Has anyone else out there set up their Convio site to work with WebTrends?

Which product are you using for content management? Or are you just using Fundraising or Event modules? If it's Convio CMS, there are a few folks we can connect you with.

Also, I should note that we released some cool hooks into Google Analytics in the spring that give you really good goal tracking support through the conversion process.

We currently have Google set up, and trying to get certain parts to work. However, before we had Convio, we had a Webtrends license and server, so they would like to implement both. We basically just have the Convio package that is used for online giving and basic pages.

Hmmm, then the folks I had in mind won't be much help. I think it appears you've vetted the Google Analytics stuff we introduced and that it's not going to work for you. Have you looked at the S-Tags Convio provides to allow you to get at some session variables? These might help you send the right info back to WT. The challenge with funnel tracking (you may already know this) is that the URL in the Donation module changes too frequently to get you what you need consistently. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Google seems to be working fine, it is just there are some things that Webtrends does, that Google doesn't, and that is what they want.

From what little I understand about Webtrends (WT), each donation page needs different, specific meta tags inserted into them, so that WT can properly identify and track donations from each page. But I do not (with my limited knowlegde of Convio) see where I have an option to insert meta tags into each individual form (I only seem to find them able to be set globally).

    Hey Jeff.

I wonder if you can do a dynamic tag in the meta tag area of the page wrapper setup (you might want to create a page wrapper specifically for donations if you don't have it already).

It would look something like (I don't know if this is the meta tag WT needs or not)

I'm not 100% certain you can insert a dynamic tag in the META tag, or exactly which S-Tag you would need to insert -- but I think there's a good chance it will work.

There's a document on this site that has all the S-tags.

    Peter,

Where is the documentation for these new "hooks" for Google analytics?

    Christian

  • We are headed for a site redesign - the new site will use the Convio CMS and will launch this Fall. We currently use both Webtrends and GA as our analytics tools and I am trying to determine if we should move to one platform and if so which one, and why.

What was the result of your experience with WT and GA?  Did you choose one platform over the other?  What other pitfalls did you encounter?
