Hi Wonderful Community Folks,


Last year was our first on TeamRaiser. We had volunteers sign up on a Google.doc. Is there a way for volunteers to sign up through TeamRaiser/LO? Some of our volunteers are participants in the event who volunteer in the days prior. What solutions do you use to sign up volunteers?

We sometimes use a survey form to collect volunteer applications, like in this example:

If the volunteers will have the option to also fundraise, we have them apply by registering with a promo-code restricted volunteer registration type in the TR, as in this example:

But there are many considerations around that to conditionalize content and messaging appropriately across the rest of the TR, so you'd absolutely want to think it through and test it and make sure it works for your purposes.

It's unfortunate that Luminate doesn't have a volunteer component.  I use surveys for my volunteer sign up and embed it in to my volunteer page.  It's not the ideal solution, but it's the best untill Blackbaud decides to include a volunteer component.

Another thing you can do is set up a separate Teamraiser for the purpose of taking volunteer signups for an event. You can create each volunteer 'job' as a separate participation type, and use limits if needed, if there are only a certain number of slots to fill for each job. By making it a separate TR, you can customize the messaging for volunteers, and people can be both participants AND volunteers if they want (if that is possible). Coaching Emails work great for communicating with volunteers this way. But, the shortcoming of this approach is that each volunteer can take only one job, because TR doesn't allow multiple registrations by the same person.
