Anyone use SMS / text message communication and giving options?

Options
Hi all,

We've had a request from some TR team captains for text message-based giving and recruiting options.  We never saw a high level of success with text-based giving in the past, and we haven't investigated options for 5 or 6 years, so just curious to hear if anyone out there is using SMS-based outreach, how you are using it, if you integrate it with LO somehow (even if simply texting people who opt in links directly to LO pages or forms), what products you are using, etc.

Greatly appreciated!

  • I’ll be curious
to know as well.  It probably been at least 5 or 6 years since
we used a solution.  I don’t even remember the names – I think
one was MobileCommons.  They all integrated with Luminate,
though.  We finally ended up giving up because our audience
(who are mainly older) didn’t engage with it.  It was just
costing too much money to justify continuing.

    I’d like to test
    again, though.

    Hi Tanna,

We've been using the MobileCause platform for SMS communications around around our TR events. We only use it as an outbound communication channel. And mostly for event notifications (e.g. weather delays, etc.) Howeer, we have not implemented an SMS-based giving, fundaraising, or recruiting strategy. So, like Alicia, I'm interested to learn if anyone has had success in that area, and how exactly they went about it.

  • Hello, we started using mobile-text-alerts.com two
years ago to see how our participants would respond to it. We only
offered the mobile alerts to constituents that were participants in
our Walks. Since it's not integrated with LO, we created a question
in the registration process to see if they were interested in
receiving text alerts. Those that said yes, were exported out of LO
and imported into the Mobile platform. We then created a
communication plan. We found that those that opted for mobile
alerts fundraising increased 54%. Mobile-Alerts recently added an
API option that we will be investigating soon so that the process
can be seamless. Hope this helps

For those interested, Hustle is a Blackbaud Certified Partner that does peer-to-peer texting.  They have worked with Luminate clients before and would be good to follow up with on working together on upcoming campaigns or events.

    Hi Ryan,

I plan to go through their marketing material, but was wondering if you could provide the highlights of how Hustle and LO integrate?

    Thanks!

    Desiree,

Hoping you wouldn't mind sharing the basics of what your communications plan was for this audience? How often did you text, and what sort of content did you send?  Did you typically also share links to more info or forms?

    Thanks much!!

  • Hi all,

Sharing some options I've gotten back as I investigate this:
Just a note that if you are interested in learning more about Charity Dynamic's option, they are having a webinar on the 17th at 1pm EST - you should be able to access the deets using the link above.

If anyone has more info to share on SMS options and how they are being used by the orgs out there, please keep it coming!!

I'll circle back with an update on what we end up with and how we end up using it.

    Thx all!

    Tanna
