Event Registration Sites

Options
Hello, would anyone be willing to share their event registration site with me just an example. We're looking to sign up for OLX but would like to see what current users have been doing and to hear what their experiences have been with it, i.e. functionality, problems, benefits, etc. And if anyone has switched from BBNC, I'd love to here what your experience in switching over and how you compare the two. Thanks!

  • Cara Wyland: Our site, www.stpatrickfoundation.org, has a couple of event registrations on it right now (Green Hat Run, which will be deactivated by tomorrow, and Dragon Boat Race).  Click on the events tab and select either one to see our Registration Modules integrated into our pages.  I like using OLX for this - there are some things missing in the functionality and you have to go through some steps to get there, but overall it has been a lot better than having our web designer do these (gives us more control overall). I didn't use an online registration tool before OLX so i really can't tell how it compares to others.  Hope this helps!

We currently use it and we had a heck of a time getting it to work with our platform, which is Drupal I think.   Took a lot of back and forth with Blackbaud, our marketing team and our web developer to get it finally work.   We were told it would work with no issues on Drupal, but alas, there were issues.    Now everything is fine and we have no complaints.   We did have BBNC for sometime and I like OLX because it is housed in the database, all you need to do is set up forms and copy and past the script into the website's backend.

We switched from BBNC to Online Express a little over a year ago. Some functionality in BBNC is not present in Online Express (multiple events on one registration form is a big problem for us). We do have some events online now that you can look at (https://www.goramblers.org/page/giving/special-events/ramblehttps://goramblers.myschoolapp.com/page/event-registration). Overall we do not have problems with processing registrations straight into RE and the ability to embed directly onto a webpage is nice.

I also want to add that I like how the form takes on the font style/family of your website, they call it Inherited on the backend.   So it looks consistent with the look and feel of your organization

Emily;   I am completly new to Online Express and am just getting a handle on events.  This event is exactly what I need to do for our homecoming event.  (Multiple paid items on one registration form, with only one entry of person)  Can we touch base so that I can understand how you did this?

We just had our annual gala, here is the registration website, I will leave it up for a little while: http://www.grh.org/foundation/gala/

Some things I have noticed is that if some viewers have aggressive content filtering on their web browser and firewall, it may block the javascript that runs the registration form. I had one employee that could not get the plugin to pop up at work, but everyone else was able to access it.

Another piece of feedbakc is that sometimes, depending on how users use the registration form, they may have a registrant get entered as a "guest" others as a "Registrant" this is kindof out of your control as it depends on how the user registers. You may be able to guide the user to register one way or another, but I have yet to figure that out.

We have multiple paid items on a form as well.  Have you used NetCommunity before?  Or you new to online events all together?

  • Hey Frank.  You can check out http://www.habitatbreakfast.org to see an example for a free event we're hosting.

  • Sure! evanfleet@dday.org is my email!

Okay, well on event registration forms you can definitely have multiple options for registrations.   I have an event up right now where people are choosing to register AND purchase chance auction tickets, its a one stop shop :)

Thank you all for the responses! They are incredibly helpful. Lauren, just for clarity, when you say you can multiple options for registrations, do you mean you can have multiple event registrations on one event page or one registration and then things like sponsorship and additional donations? My understanding was that OLX cannot currently do "nesting" events. But I've seen from everyone's examples that you can put sponsorship options and such.

We switched from BBNC to Online Express a little over a year ago. Some functionality in BBNC is not present in Online Express (multiple events on one registration form is a big problem for us). Thank you Lyn! So have you found a workaround for hosting multiple events on one registration page?

  • One workaround we use is creating multiple registration pages and one main page directly constituents to the different options (for example, https://www.goramblers.org/page/giving/special-events/ramble).

We have several annual events that we use Online Express for. The most difficult task I've had is to create a way for sponsors to submit a guest list for formal dinner. We mail confirmation letters with name tags to these folks and need their mailing information. I've tried several different methods, but ended up using particpant attributes in RE to get the functionality we needed. Anyone with other ideas, I'd love to hear them! What I can't figure out, is why the forms are scripted to piecemeal the information for each registrant rather than keep the attributes that pertain to each registrant together. If there's a better way to set something like this up, I'd love to know.

Our other events are easier to set up because we're simply selling tickets, or sponsorships. We don't need guest information for them.
