Gifts disappeared...

Hello Wonderful Community Members! I am hoping that at least one of you has experienced something similar. In December I noticed that a gift I had entered in RE, that had appeared on a report just two weeks before, was missing from RE. We recently installed a stand-alone backup of the database and found 34 gifts that appear to be missing over 18 years. There is no rhyme or reason. Thirty-two of the missing gifts are from records that were merged soon after we we began merging records with our RELO plug-in, which synchronizes records between RE and Luminate Online (LO). It is possible these gifts were accidentally lost during this process, but I would be surprised because I was very methodical about merging, especially because I was just learning how this worked. And then there are the two missing gifts that were not connected to records that were merged. Plus the original. BB support says that RE can't delete gifts and it must have been that someone deleted them. It's unnerving not to know how this happened. Have any of you had gifts disappear from RE? Would you kindly share the cause(s)? Perhaps this will help me track down what happened with our gifts. Much thanks, Jill

  • I'm with support on this one - the most likely cause is human error. I've never experienced gifts disappearing from RE that weren't the result of someone deleting something they shouldn't.

I might recommend ammending security priveleges so that nobody but you can delete gifts.
  • Hi Jill, I just noticed today that all my journal contact imports have disapearred from years of importing contact notes.... I can't get on chat support until tomorrow to figure this out. It's a little different than your issue, but reading your post has inspired me to start making backups time stamped regularly. This is pretty unacceptable considering how much we pay for this product!

  • IMPORTANT: If you're self- or third-party-hosted*, you can - and should! - set up at least weekly, and preferably more frequent, backups in Blackbaud Management Console. It takes 5 minutes and will save you much heart- and head-ache. Plus, you can not only restore your data, you can investigate issues like those mentioned here. * Blackbaud takes care of its hosted client backups.

While you're at it, set up a regular maintenance schedule (to run after the backup, never before).
