    Is there any documentation
on how to implement COI/double opt-in for LO email/modules?

    Hello!

Recently my spam check report has been giving me a score of 0.0. It gives me this:

NO_RELAYS Informational: message was not relayed via SMTP   NO_RECEIVED Informational: message has no Received headers
    -0.0
    -0.0
Is this an internal issue or is there something I need to do on my end to fix it? The results are the same if I use Chrome or IE.

In addition to this, I noticed our eNewsletter had a much lower open rate even though our database had grown significantly. I checked the soft bounce report and over 1,000 hotmail users did not get our email. Does anyone have experience with this recently?

I'm not sure how to fix any spammy content if the spam checker is failing.
    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for this wonderful and detailed thread. Since our adoption of LO in Jan 2017, we've seen our email engagement drop by about half. Most recently, I have even stopped receiving our org's email addresses. So, we're getting convos started with our IT team as well as looking to resources such as this community.

To start, I notice many noticing an increase in soft bounces. Can you please refresh my memory on how to review soft bounce reports. Can you they be reviewed both by individual email campaign as well as across a date range (to quickly see performance over time)?

Also, internally have you all verified that your From domains are properly configured (sender ID and SPF) with the new ranges of BB sending IP address? I ask because I do not believe our org is, and something we're currently investigating.

Lastly, is there a way for us to check if our organization is currently blacklisted?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Kim, it's my understanding that the LO double opt-in currently has a BUG that is under investigation.

We are seeing the same thing. What do you currently do with your soft bounce emails? We track engagement factors.. open, received and click through. I have almost 1,500 emails of constituents that have been engaged with us who all of the sudden now have soft bounce emails.

I've been debating reaching out to them again with another email. Should i wait and see if this gets resolved?

All I was told in my support case is that "The responses our server received from the soft bounces were mostly spam reports. "

Thank goodness that it's not the fall!

    Maria

Maria, you should definitely reach out to Support again to get attention to your specific issues - and guidance as to how to proceed.

Jason, to answer your last, I just found this link in an article today, where you can check your domain and/or IP address: https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/

When I saw this thread in my weekly Community Forum digest, I opened it in a tab and then ignored it for several days (!) but now am reading and re-reading, trying to wrap my head around what all these soft bounces mean. We don't send many emails to our entire database (most of our emails are highly segmented based on interests, event participation, etc), but I've been checking the last few we did send out to large numbers or all database, and am concerned to see that the soft bounces have radically risen. Ex: our all-d/b newsletter, going to ~25000 addresses, in December saw 158 soft bounces. March had a small increase to 222. Then suddenly in April, up to 660, and our most recent send, about a month ago, had 1748!

I ran the soft bounce report for May and am seeing, as others have said, a very large number of hotmail, msn, live, and outlook.com addresses.

I am not versed enough in deliverability to know what this means or what we should do, but am concerned about these converting to hard bounces (essentially losing all these constituents permanently), because someone else mentioned that that's a thing; and also I feel like I don't know what we should be doing about this overall.

Lastly, I'm also very concerned that we apparently simply cannot create a double opt-in situation using LO (as others in this thread brought up) due to both (apparently) poor implementation and that there's a bug in the feature.

Sorry to ramble, but I'm following this thread to see where it goes.

    Thanks,

    Gurukarm

    Hi,

There is a product defect currently under investigation around double opt-in. There is an alternate workaround for this; details are outlined in this KB.

  • What internal discussions are taking place? As a large percentage of Blackbaud's clients' emailable files are now erroneously marked as soft/hard bounce, how will Blackbaud resolve this? We need assurance that this issue is of utmost priority.

Just wanted to second everything that Jessica said above. We've been seeing a spike in soft bounces for months now, and it's very concerning.

  • From today's Login message:
    https://bb-email-services.docs.blackbaud.com/overview/client/spam-traps/

    Under:

    How to Avoid SPAM Traps

Use double opt-in. This process requires new recipients to respond to an email to verify their address and confirm their request to receive email from your organization. Double opt-in reduces the liklihood that you'll send to an email address that includes a typo or is fake.

Ummmmmmmmm. BB this functionality has a bug. Maybe correct that first and then post this.

    Just saying.

  • We already have a workaround, we only send broadcast e-mails from interests and constituents are put into interests when interacting with LO, but it would be nice to have the functionality that is supposed to work, actually work. This is helpful for some customers, but there is no date on this knowledge base article. How long has this been a bug? And I didn't even know this functionality existed until the "Soft Bounce" issue started happening. Someone asked where the documentation for the double opt-in is, I can't find it either. I checked the Help and Knowledgebase. Is it hidden due to this bug?

We get told at conferences/roadmaps there are minimal bugs and it is touted/championed, but there always seem to ones out there. And this one is actually affecting many clients.

Additionally, when is SpamAssasin going to start working? Another bug related to deliverability. This thread started in February of this year and it still isn't working.
