OLX Bounced Emails - where is that recorded??

Options
I am new to OLX but trying to get a handle on all the data provided. But as the question earlier in the week asked about opt-outs, what about bounces?

I always thought it meant an email that didn't go through. BUT... when I look at the appeal tab for a bounced constituent it says opened, another says clicked.

If it bounced how did they open it??

AND... if they are not good emails, do I have to MANUALLY click no email on every constituent that bounced back?  That is crazy!

Some advice please.

P.S. - I did watch the video, but it didn't say what happens to the bounced emails.

thank you!

    Hi Alison,

There are 2 types of bouces - hard & soft. Hard bounce is a permanent failure, meaning the address is no longer "good" & the email service will not try again. Soft bounce is a temporary failure, such as server is down/mailbox is full/etc but the address is "good" and can be used for future mailings.

Hard bounces are automatically excluded from future mailings (https://bb-email-services.docs.blackbaud.com/faqs/olx/#OLXBounce) so no action is needed from you on these on the email front. I'm a big fan of removing/"retiring" those email addresses from RE so your lists aren't loaded with bad addresses. High bounce rates can affect your sender reputation so keeping your lists clean will go a long way to achieving higher email delivery rates.

Check the type of bounces you have & create a plan of attack from that. Smaller but clean lists are always better.

It was my understanding that BB's email only tries to deliver an email once so I have NO explaination for why a bounced email would have a click. Hmm... Any BB employee want to give us some insight?

    Hope this helps!

  • thank you - but how do I know if it is a hard or soft bounce. I don't see anything that says that. Or not looking in the right place.

There's a button named "Unusable emails". This will give you all the hard bounce & opt-out emails. To see which they are, use the "Type" dropdown and filter hard or opt-out. Sadly, soft bounces aren't included there but at least that'll give you the info on the priority emails to attend to.

  • Didn't see that at first, I was going right into the email details and see the bounces that way.

    this helps, thankyou!
