Query is pulling deceased Name instead of primary

Options
I am running a query and then an export on who has given to a certain fund this past year and from when the fund was created. When I run the report it will show for ex. Jon Doe (deceased) instead of Jane Doe.....or will show Patty instead of Jon (head of household).

Anyone have ANY idea what I happen to be doing wrong?

  • In your query, make sure that you choose not to include deceased people. Then, go to Tools > Query Options > Gift Processing and in the soft credit area, select "Both" and "Use Amount in Grid."

So, assuming that your surviving spouse is soft credited on the gifts the deceased spouse gave back when they were living, the surviving spouse will show up in your query results.

Then in your export, you want to make sure that only the head of household is being output, so as not to create situations where two surviving spouses get spat out with identical giving information. And in your gift export fields, you'll also need to make sure you set up the soft credit parameters to "both" and "use distribution on gift."
  • That would eliminate all donors that have given, but have no spouse, correct? We want everyone that has given, but it is pulling the wrong name if they are married....deceased or not.

  • No, it would not do that. Any living person with no spouse would still show up in the results. Likewise, any household with two living spouses would only result in one line in your final spreadsheet.
