Event Model

Options
We have added several new events and are considering purchasing the event module.

Annually we have a Golf Tournament, Gala, Clay Shoot and Women's luncheon.

Do any of you have the "Event Module" for Raiser's Edge and to you find it useful and worth the initial expense and maintenance fee.

Thank you

  • Hi Jeana,

We have the Event Module and mostly use it for two large annual galas.

We use the module mainly to track event seating, though I also track registration fees, any vegetarian or special meal needs, etc.

We also use the module to track a variety of other events, but just from an invite/RSVP/attendance level

The module works well for our needs, though once we get close to compacy on the event (typically we have between 1,200 and 1,500 attendees) it is a resource hog and slows things down and exporting data from it can be time consuming as well.

If you have any specific questions IM me (or respond to this thread).

  • Hi Jenna,

We use the module for large and small events and for free and paid events.

Works well as a way to track who was invited, who said yes, who said no, who said yes but didn't show up....

Fow Golf, we use it as a way to set foursomes and track handicaps.  For dinners, we use it to track tables.

Also, being able to set and then tweak beneifts for the various ticketing levels works nicely.

  • I use the events module as well: both for big events (our annual Wiggle Waggle Walk & Run, National Cupcake Day, and Summer Harvest Garden Party) and small events (tours, open houses, kids camps). I've also switched over our annual donors survey responses into the events module so we can keep track of them year over year (instead of overwriting the constituent attributes annually), and this year I'm tracking our in-house raffle ticket purchases in the events module.  A little cumbersome, but we have 10,500 tickets, so I created 10,500 "seats" which represent a ticket number, and purchasers are dragged to the ticket numbers they bought. (Volunteers are doing this as a time-saver for me.) Extra work but so far it's been very useful in keeping track of who has which ticket, and if there are missing blocks of tickets.

I suspect that once you get the events module you'll find creative uses for it!

I assume you're running "plain" RE and not NXT.  Before buying the Events module, check with your rep about whether that functionality would be automatically included with NXT (I seem to remember that many "optional" modules were supposed to be standard with NXT).  You might find it more economical to go ahead and bite the bullet and move to NXT than pay extra for an option that would later be standard.

Something I advise everyone to do when considering purchasing an optional module; the Sample Database has all options enabled, so open the Sample Database and play with it.  Add some Events and run some Reports to see if it gives you what you want.  Also, search through the Idea Bank to see what others have asked to be added to the Events module (that's a quick way to see if there's something missing that you assumed would be already there in the software).
