How to create a file in RE that I can export to Excel, make changes and import into RE.

Options
I thought there was a way to create an import file that can be exported to Excel that RE prepopulates with the information so I can make changes ad then reimport into RE.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I want to delete an Appeal.

Thanks,

Melanie

  • Melanie,

Do you want to delete an appeal from all the records with that appeal or are there different changes depending on the constituent?

If you just want to delete the appeal from all records you can use a Global Delete (no need for export/import)

You'd create a query to find all records with that appeal, then under Global Delete

    Tab 1 - General:

Record Type:  Constituent Appeals (at the bottom of the list)

Include - select the query you created to find all records with that appeal

    Tab 2 - Delete Options:

Select the Appeal ID for the appeal you want deleted
  • Admin > Import > New Import > Create Import File will let you create an import file (save to XLS or CSV) that you can edit and then Import back to RE using the same Import Parameters.

However, to delete an Appeal (I assume you mean the tags on the Constituent Records Appeals Tab), you probably want to use Global Delete.

In either case, just be careful, as there's no Undo feature.  Be sure you have a recent backup of RE and use a Query with just a record or two first, to be sure you're confortable with the tool and that it's doing what you need it to do.

Good advice! I always do anything like that first with only a record or two to make sure that it's going to do what I want.

Also, for an import I put the information that I want to import or change in an import on one record and then use that to export out the headers that I'll need. I usually use my personal record to test everything on.

At my last org, I created 3 dummy records that I used for testing...Robert Hernandez, his wife, Wendy, and his company, XYZ Corporation.  That way, I didn't worry about having to cleanup my own record, could easily exclude the dummy records (we had some others for other purposes, all with a Constituent Code) from Exports and Reports, and they were available for anyone else to mess around with, too (not that anyone did).
