E-mail "Senders" and AOL (What Shows Up in the "From" Field)

Options

I was just wondering if there's anything that could be done to avoid AOL users receiving e-mails "from" instead of the name you actually put in the "sender" box as part of an e-mail's envelope. I am pretty sure AOL universally takes the actual e-mail address an e-mail is sent from and sticks that in the "from" field in people's inboxes. It might be something a user can change in their e-mail client settings, but I don't know how, and who would really want to - from a user's perspective, it's better to see the actual e-mail address so you know if the message is legit.

I have an AOL account I don't really use, but every e-mail in that inbox has the full/actual e-mail address in the "from" field, leading me to believe that this is an issue across the board for all CRMs. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Have you checked out the YDK slide deck on the DomainKeys help page in the Convio Customer Center? Though the entire presentation is intended to explain how addresses will appear when Yahoo DomainKeys are in place, slides 9-15 have screen shots of how we would expect the senders' name and email address to appear. Is this consistant with what you see in your Yahoo account?

  • AOL chooses to display only the From email address in the From field or column of their inbox layout. Within the AOL email client there appears to be no setting that a user might change to alter this display behavior. Not all email clients break apart the From to extract the senders real name and display that in the Inbox. Using a separate application to download and view the mail from the AOL Inbox with a client such as Thunderbird will have the descibed behavior.

TTBOMK there is no means by which to force the AOL email client to display the sender's real name in the interface. Even if the sendeing address is in the recipients Address Book only the email address is diplayed in the Inbox view. This is just how AOL chooses to present the From field in the interface regardless of the orignating application.
