Same Day Event Registrations

Options
All, like many of you we have 'events'(i.e. walks and/or runs).  We generally close online registration a couple of days prior to the event and on the day of event we use paper registrations forms and accept checks(note: at some events we also have CC readers for payments).  The net is that after the event we are left with LOTS of paper to manually enter into LO for record keeping/etc.

We want to provide an option for online registration the day of(i.e. re-open the LO event the morning of the event) but are there other ways we should be considering?  How do you reduce the amount of registration related paper on the day of the event.

Thanks, Dennis

To be sure, when you say you manually enter the paper registrations into the event, are you doing them one-by-one or as registration uploads? For our paper registrations, everything gets entered into a spreadsheet as we can, then the spreadsheet is uploaded via Fundraising -> TeamRaiser -> Uploads -> Upload Registrations. If your crew isn't doing that, doing that would save a lot of time.

Opening the event back up for online registrations may be the easiest solution, though -- just depends on what your participants' expectations are and how you can support it. It's not usually something we do, since we don't have something like online kiosks where people can walk up and register online at the actual event, and we can't be 100% sure everyone who wants to register day-of-event would have a mobile device so they could sign up that way. It seems to eliminate a lot of confusion to simply go the paper route.
