Backup

Could someone direct me to an article on how to backup Razor Edge 7 on the server.  Currently we are just copying the data directly.  I know in some cases with SQL databases that isn't the correct way to create a good backup.

Alan is right. That article is a good resource.


I'd add that if you haven't been making use of Blackbaud Management Console for your backups, that your probably also not performing any database maintenance such as re-indexing, etc.


BBMC is a go-to resource for managing 99% of your RE7 DB maintenance. All BBMC is in this respect is a UI for creating SQL tasks and, optionally, scheduling them. You can achieve the same thing using SQL Server Management Studio, for example, albeit with a bit more messing about. In fact, once you've used BBMC to set up your RE DB maintenance, you can view these created tasks and - if you're game - modify them directly, though this is probably only useful if you require some convoluted scheduling.


As an aside, Blackbaud recommends daily backups and weekly maintenance. Always perform a backup BEFORE maintenance rather than after.
