when Business Rules go wrong

Options
We have a business rule set that creates an "in memory of" tribute record automatically when you mark and save a record as deceased. Lately we have been experiencing frequent inconsistencies with this, but only from one user. Any thoughts about if this is user error, some glitch, or something else?

is it a security issue setting for that particular user, maybe they are restricted from specific cons codes or maybe the tribute module.

  • Hi Jennifer-

    I'm stumped. Here's the test I ran.

I enabled the Business Rule in question and created a new security group called Read-Only. For GROUP PRIVILEDGES I unchecked everything except for RECORDS. Under RECORDS, the only items I have checked are CONSTITUENTS, CAMPAIGNS, FUNDS, APPEALS, and EVENTS. The only CONSTITUENT PRIVILEDGES I gave to all sections is VIEW. There's only one place I allowed EDIT and that was under CONSTITUENTS -> CONSTITUENT -> BIOGRAPHICAL. I logged in under a Read-Only user and that one Edit permission in Biographical allowed me to check the Deceased checkbox and the "Create Tribute for the Deceased" business rule ran successfully. I might have missed something, but I don't think this is a permissions issue.

I think your next step is to watch the user click that box and see exactly what happens. Maybe you can post a description of what's going wrong?
  • It turns out that it is a known glitch. Support couldn't offer a reason why it has suddenly been happening more frequently. Another user noticed that it was happening to her as well, and these are both users that have successfully done this a million times and have no related security restrictions. **shrug**
