deleting table entries

Options
Pls let me preface my question by telling you that I am fairly new to RE7 only having 5-6 mos experience with it as a new user. Our two most experienced / experts have recently left for new jobs so I am "winging it" with the help of manuals and the community till the new "expert" comes on board. So thank you in advance.

We have some mistaken entries in our volunteer type table. I was going to replace/delete them to clean up the table when I noticed the note saying that Entries in the volunteer type tables affect other areas one of which was Net Solutions. I am not familiar with Net Solutions and am not sure what it is. The change we are looking out is renaming one of the volunteer types. Would this type of change make a significant impact on Net Solutions and how is Net Solutions involved with Volunteer types.

  • Renaming a Volunteer Type shouldn't be a problem.  And RE shouldn't allow you to delete a table entry that is in use in the database.  As far as NetSolutions...I believe there is a section of NetSolutions where your volunteers can sign up/schedule particular activities and if you use that piece, it may be affected.

  • Thanks
Jen! You are correct about deleting the table entry but I think I
can delete it if I replace it which is what I was going to do. If I
got this right, I can add a new table entry and then "clean up" by
replacing the old entry with the new entry and then delete the old
    entry,

    for
example, add Food Pantry and then replace old entry (Food Locker)
with the Food Pantry and delete Food Locker. Is that correct?

I don't think we use volunteer area of Net Solutions b
ut will check before I make any kind of
    changes.

If all you want to do is to "change" the table entry just edit the existing entry from Food Locker to Food Pantry. No need to add a new entry and then do table clean up

  • Thanks
Elaine! Didn't know I could do that. Just so I have it right, this
will (also) change all the Food Locker entries to Food Pantry in
    all previously affected records, correct?

NetSolutions was a very early CMS.  NetCommunity and OLX replaced NetSolutions, so it is very unlikely you are still using it.

  • I just attended the RE Data Admin class and this came up. Instead of deleting an entry in a table that is already used somewhere else, you can do a Global Change. Example - I had 3 different spellings of Atlanta in my city table, so I couldn't delete the incorrect ones, I did a Global change and changed Altanta and Atanta to Atlanta. Worked like a charm. Hope this helps.
  • Sharon,

That's a great tip. Will do some Knowledgebase  research to learn more. Thank you
