Tracking past officers in RE

I work in an organization that has layers of local units, districts, conferences and jurisdictions.  At each level there are many officers.  How do I best keep track of past officers (terms vary) without making my list pulling for current officers a cluttered mess. 


We have experimented with Groups, but it gets complicated.  A member, lets call her Jennifer, may be in Conference X, but she was an officer 10 years ago in Conference Y at the local unit level.  I want the list I pull of the current conference X members to include Jennifer, but not indicate that she was an officer, as her position was in a different conference.


All ideas welcome.

What "Groups" are you referencing in RE?


If you have one of them, you could do this with the Volunteer Module or the Membership Module.  There is another recent & active thread about this in the Community right now.about much the same thing.

We use relationships for this.


Each Committe/Board Group has its own "org-type" record (Board of Trustees, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, etc), constituency code = Board/Committee


Each consitituent who serves (or served) on the Board/Committee has a relationship with the approriate body.  We use Committee/Member and Leadership/Member as the relationship codes for Committee membership and Board relationship respectively.


When someone becomes a member, that's the from date.  When they are no longer a member, that's the "to date" and we flip the relationship coding to Former Committee/Former Member or Former Leadership/Former Member as appropraite.


When we pull reports, we just pull based on these relationship settings.  Also, we can go to the Org records of the particular Committee or Board and see who is serving and who has served.


Works well for us.
