Emergency Contact

What is the best way to flag/identify a relationship in RE as an emergency contact without using the Relation Code, Recip Code, or an attribute? I need to be able to see which relationship is the emergency contact from the Relationship tab (without having to open each relationship to find it). I cannot use the Relationship or Reciprocal because those fields are already in use to identify the actual relations. For example, a member lists their mother as their emergency contact. The relationship/recip codes will be mother/son so I need a separate field to note they are also the emergency contact. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Tami-

Not sure how you would do it without involving the attribute tab... You could put the same relationship in a second (or third, etc.) time only this time use "emergency contact as the relationship type. It duplicates - BUT allows you to see the emergancy contact on the relationship tab.

  • We do the same thing Josh recommended!  Works well.
  • You could type 'Emergency Contact' in the Notes on the Attributes/Notes tab of the existing relationship. The Notes field can be selected in the columns to display in the relationships tab. That avoids adding the same person as two relationships.

Several good solutions suggested. If still looking for other options, look at the list of fields available to display on the relationship window.  List is quite long.  Perhaps there is a field you're not using that could serve your purpose.

I can't get into RE right now to check this, but I think there are Relationship Attributes as well.  Somebody please correct me if my memory is faulty.  But, if you didn't want duplicate relationships with one being the emergency contact and the other being parent/child or whatever, then this is something you could consider.  You'd just have an emergency contact attribute right within the parent/child relationship, and these are queriable.

  • Dare I ask why this is information the fundraising office needs to know? Isn't this something for the student affairs or registrar's office to know?

Our RE is used for much more than just fundraising. We have different departments that use/need this information. We also use the emergency contact portion of EE; however, that field does not synchronize with RE and the RE users that need the information do not have access to EE.
