Are there any current Los Angeles user groups?  If not, would anyone else be interested in starting one?

  • Not sure if I can host one but I am very interested in attending.


    What is required to host one?
  • I think as long as there is a decent amount of interest and participation we would just need a venue.  
  • Jordan, I posted a similar post a few months back and received little response.  We are in Manhattan Beach and would be willing to host (based on the day@time).

    Not sure of everyone's location but I am looking for one up in my area which is Pasadena.

  • Jenny, are you willing to host?  I have no problem driving to Pasadena. Manhattan Beach and Pasadena are not that far compared to the value I am sure all would receive.

    Haha--I am interested in a user group meeting in LA (Louisiana, that is!).  Any other users in the gulf coastal LA interested in meeting?

    Between this forum, RE's Facebook group, and LinkedIn, I have received about 6 people interested in joining.  I can host if the numbers are still < 10 since that is the max our conference room holds.  


    Does anyone have any topics they would like to lead or suggest for discussion?

    If anyone has exerience/best practices for IDC and migrating to K12 on & Core, I'm  all ears! 

  • Careful with the term LA!   I was wondering if you meant a state or other city designation.  Of course, we in the Los Angeles area naturally felt you were referring to Los Angeles! We have a database managers roundtable group consisting of RE users working at mostly private high schools from the Los Angeles County.  Our school has hosted a few RE User Group meetings in the past.  And I'm sure there are probably a few schools in our group who wouldn't mind hosting one themselves.  Let me know if you'd like me to reach out to our roundtable group.

  • I would consider joining you all. I live at the edge of the LA/OC border though, so I'd need to be able to charge my car when I got there to make it back from Pasadena comfortably. Which might prevent me from attending regularly. I wouldn't mind starting a group in the OC or South Bay additionally.


    Have you considered posting in the Facebook RE User Group to see if anyone there is interested?

    All, let's get this moving!!  Jordan and I spoke earlier today and here is what we are proposing.  Realize that NOTHING is set-in-stone so we are definitely open to whatever works for the group;

    1. Meeting Date: Wednesday, Oct 25 @ 1400-1700hrs

    2. Location: PanCAN, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

    3. Agenda - ??? please submit your topic idea's for discussion.

    Hello, Jordan:


    I hosted a user group back in 2009 at my org. You don't have to worry about gathering interested users. Blackbaud takes care of this. If anyone here is interested in hosting a user group in the LA area, let Blackbaud know. They will take care of sending out email notices to all their clients in the area to sign up. And trust me, plenty of people will sign up.  Also, Blackbaud reimburses the hosting org for lunch expenses. It is very easy. All you need is a spare room.

    1. Data Integration and Quality – what do you do, how and why
    2. Reporting  – what do you do, how and why
    3. Biggest issue/question – have others seen it and what idea’s to help resolve
    4. Email campaigns – what do you use and how do you measure success
    5. Any technical tips/tricks you use to manage the RE application and/or database
    6. Hosted or non-hosted(w/ BB or others)
    7. Duplicates – how do you manage, how do you prevent
    8. Giving Tuesday - planning and optimizing 
    If there are other suggestions feel free to reply to this post.  Also,  if you are able to attend the suggested date of 10/25/17, please let me know.
