Need a simple php/mysql database

We had initially purchased Convio Directory to allow users to find therapists who specialize in LGBT issues. It proved insufficient for the task.

Now I would like to find a simple database with strong admin area that can be maintained by in-house staff. I know just enough to get it set up on an external server and i-framed into our Convio site, but I'm having trouble finding an off-the-shelf solution.

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.
