Solicitor Relationships - naming options needed!

Options
Hi all,

We currently assign prospects to an assigned solicitor using the title Prospect Manager for lead Development staff member and Seconday Manager for the additional Dev staff person working with that prospect.

We're thinking of tweaking things a little and I have a couple of questions...

(1) If you have a Major Gift team as well as on for Annual Fund, what do you call the AF person who solicits large annual fund gifts (prospects not of a Major Gift level), do you call that AF person something different in RE, or are they coded the same way as the MGOs?

(2) How do you code Dev Staff who are responsible for asking vendors/corps for event sponsirships?  It's not a full Prospect Management role in the traditional sense, and folks want these vedors out of their portfolio, but we do want to track who is responsible for making that call...thoughts?

Thanks!

  • Well, to address question #2, we have a solicitor relationship type of "Business Relationship Manager" that we use for this kind of thing. You could then stipulate the type of solicitor relationships you're looking for in the queries that feed your reports to filter these kinds of relationships out.

I don't think I have any meaningful experience to answer #1. My AG person does not discreetly solicit any one donor, so they are not the solicitor of record for anyone really. To track her progress, we just look at total gifts with a direct mail appeal, regardless of whether or not there's an MG solicitor on record. Though we do carefully curate which MG donors can and cannot receive direct mail, as some of them don't like being treated like regular donors while others love to see everything we produce.

Well let's see -- If it's Dev. Staff, then that is their Solicitor Type, and then there is a Primary and Secondary.  If you have folks that would be an Major Gift solicitor and an Annual Fund solicitor and they can or cannot be the same person doing both assignment.  And you need to specifically pull lists/reports by Solicitor Type I would make the MG and AF separate solicitor and if the same person does both assignments, they are the solicitor twice on that record, once each with the different solicitor types.
