Tracking new or updating existing email sign-ups from an ad

Hi Everyone:

We are currently using one sign-up page for people to indicate their interests. We have five different interests we use to target the content of email campaigns. We have opt-in/out groups for each.

We are having an ad run this summer at several events directing people to a new sign-up page. This sign up page is also acting as a way for people to epxress their interest in a random drawing for a trip to Nicaragua to visit one of our projects. We want to automatically sign up people for an existing interest (news), AND we also want to somehow flag these people as having come to the sign-up page from this ad. We need to flag both new and current people to measure the effectiveness of the ad. We also want both new and exisiting constituents to be considered in a random drawing should they enter their info into the sign up page.

What is the best way to do this? Do I create another interest/opt-in and hide it in the form to segment these people? Or is there something else I should be doing?
