Unique Identifiers for Journal Entries

Options
Hello,

Is there any way when a journal entry is added that a unique identifer or a generated number is attached to it. We need a way to reconcile each journal entry with our Finance dept and this seems like the best way. The generated receipt number was suggested but would not would for every journal entry.

  • Lori, would the journal Entry Ref serve your purposes? A unique Entry Ref number is created each time a journal entry is created. Unfortunately, this number is not visible on the transaction record itself, and it is not something you can query or search on in the database. But, it is reportable. You can include a column for "Entry Ref" in any custom report.

Alternatively, you might use the "Final" checkbox on the transaction. This doesn't provide a unique identifier, but it would allow you to mark off the transactions you've reconciled allowing you to focus your efforts only on those you haven't. If it helps, my colleague has written about how this can be used with a Quickbook integration (see blog post here).
