How are you all using "amount funded" in proposal

Options
I’m wondering how you guys use the “amount funded” field in the proposal tab.  For example, if a solicitor asks a donor for $50,000 and then we receive the gift agreement indicating this will be a pledge to be paid over five years ($10,000/year).  We also receive the first $10,000 payment.  What gift do you link to the proposal – the $50k pledge or the $10k payment?  Currently, we would link the actual cash and $10k would appear in “amount funded” and I would update that amount and link each gift as the payments are made.

Hoping to get some further insight...thanks!

  • Which amount do you use when reporting on revenue?  If you consider the entire amount of the pledge as current-year revenue then link the pledge to the proposal and the amount funded is $50k.
  • We link the pledge as that's the ultimate funding amount for the proposal.

I thought when RE calculated amount funded, it only looks at gifts and pledges, not payments. Pretty sure you can link them all to the gift and the amount funded should stay the same.

We also use the full pledge amount and link the proposal to the PLEDGE, not the individual payments as they come in year after year.  Proposals are really meant to measure the progress or success of gift officers or other means, not necessarily accurately count money in for a given year.  If a donor pays 4 annual $10k payments out of 5 and then passes away I'm not sure if the gift officer should really be penalized for that 4 years after the fact.  I think your gift officers might agree wink

  • I agree with Tom on this and when we roll out more work in our Proposal areas, specifically funding grant requests, this will be the method I will advocate.
  • We do the same as many of the others have indicated, we link the Pledge to the Proposal.

    Cheers,

    David

At all three organizations I've been at, we have linked the pledge, as the pledge is what we book for revenue.  I believe that is the norm.
