Counting Usable Email Addresses

Hi all,


I'm curious as to everyones understanding of what is considered a "usable" email address.  I always believed a usable email address to be one that we used in one or more emails that, to-date, has not bounced or opted-out.  It could be used in multiple lists and be sent multiple email messages, but would still be counted as just one usable email address.


Within the last few weeks, my count of usable email addresses, as shown in my account information within OLX, has been growing very quickly.  The number is now higher than the number of email addresses in RE.  When I asked Blackbaud about this, I was told that each time an email address is used in a new list it is counted as a usable email address. So, if the same address is used in 3 lists, it is counted as 3 usable email addresses.


So my question is, has something changed, have I always misunderstood the definition of a usable email address or how they are counted, or is the response I got from Blackbaud incorrect and for some reason the counting feature on my account is not working correctly?


I appreciate any and all insignt on this issue.

    I took a peek through Knowledgebase and the How to Documentation, but I couldn't find anything to help you out there.  My definition of a useable email address is the same as yours, though.

    We have uncovered a bug that relates to the usable email address count which is why you are seeing an incorrect count. You are correct about how you are counting your usable email addresses. We are working on this bug now. Sorry for the confusion!
