How does e-news signup work?...

Question: We are currently figuring out the best way to do e-news signup in Convio. We can either have the person just enter their email address or we can have them enter their email address and name. I am wondering in each scenario how the matching would be done to see if the person already exists in the database.

If they just enter an email address and it is a different email address than they already have in the system, I am assuming we cannot match to anything and this record will get created as a new record???

If they enter email and name, if the email address is different, will the system try to match on the name and if a match is found will it show up as a potential duplicate?

Response:  The Convio system matches primarily on email address alone, additionally unique records are enforced using email address. The practical impact of this is that submitting an email address that does not already exist in the system will result in a new constituent record using that email address. First and Last name are tertiary values that can come into play for deduping purposes in some special cases, but they do not figure into the typical constituent creation related to surveys.
