Report on gift response post follow up call

Options
Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out a reporting solution for one of our development officers. She is following up all gifts with a phone call to say thank you. This hasn't previously been done in our organization (except for major gifts) and she would like to figure out the impact, if any, of these calls.

I could do a comparative report for those donors over a period of time, but I'm wondering if there is a way to use the call (action) date as a data point where I can compare pre-action and post-action information? Is there a way to do this with a group of people at all?

Thank you in advance!!!!!

  • I like this idea, Carley. We have been thinking about doing the same, but have not implemented it yet. I will be interested to see the responses to your post!
  • We try to do this, but have an additional rub: the development officers want the people who have been called to roll off the list. It's super awkward as long because those calls are recorded as actions, so they are tied to the constituent, not the gift. And they need to be prepared by territory. And they want some pledge payments to get a call, but not all. Et cetera. We've moved to NXT, and I would like to make these lists more useful for them. We are very time limited, so don't have time for fancy action tracks, but I've officially decided that either I or our donor relations associate need to make time for this asap. Heck, I'll do it on my own time if I need. Then the donor relations associate could assign the calls as she enters the gifts. She and I will need to sit down and figure this one out.

  • Are the actions linked to proposals? Can you change the status on the proposal to something new once the call has been made so they can "roll off" the report based on proposal status?
  • HI Melissa,

We don't need them to roll off the report like Claire does, I just need a report on the effectiveness of the calls and if they actually changed the donors giving post call at all! Any suggestions are welcome!

I wonder if there would be a way to use the follow up call action date as a data point as follows:

    1. Query for persons with an action of “Follow-up Call by Moira”, or whatever the solicitor’s name is.

    2. Export the gift record of those constituents, with gift amount and date.

    3. Use an Excel formula which will look at the date of the “Follow up Call by Moira” and sum the giving before and after that point.  A local and friendly Excel guru might be need to choose the right formula for that operation (Sumifs type formula?)

I like it! I just have to figure out how to do it! LOL Thank you!

  • We do this at my org, and the best method we've come up with is this.

The gift that prompted the phone call gets a gift attribute entered on it.  Then we query for donors whose gifts have the attribute within a certain date range, and pull them into a gift detail and summary report for a specific range after the phone calls.  For example, we'd query for gifts with the attribute with a date of January through March, and have the report look for gift dates of February through April, or Mary through June, or whatever date range we want to look at.

It's not perfect, but it's the best we've been able to figure out so far.  I'm interested in trying this other method that has been detailed here, though....
