Exporting Specific Relationships

Options
I am trying to export certain relationships. I can get the results I need in a query but cannot figure out how to get them in in an export. I would prefer to use export so I can use the BB conditional merge function without having to export multiple queries and do multiple merges. We are a jewish organization that track and celebrates the death of a loved one each year on the anniversary of their deceased date. One side of the relationship is Observer and the other side is Father/Mother/etc. I need to export the correct relationship based on the deceased date; however, export is giving me all of them and not letting me select the ones I want. Has anyone else run across this? Anyone have a work-around? Thanks!!

  • Hi Tami-

With the information you've provided I'm wondering if in Export you specified to include All Individual Relations or Selected Individual Relations? If you build a constituent query looking for the deceased members using the deceased date, you should be able to bring that query into Export and then from under Relations, select the objects you want about the other side of the relationship (Name) and only bring in the folks that have the relationship type you want. If I were to assume the Observer is the deceased and the mother/father is the living person, you could build something like this:

  • There is also the relationship export and query -- which may do the same thing as Aaron's suggestion below. But perhaps another approach to explore.

Thanks Gina! This did it. I hadn't worked with Relationship Query/Export before and it allowed me to narrow it down based on the attribute on the relationship tab which is exactly what I needed.
