How do you export one mailing list with consituents/relationship names in the same column?

Options
Hi Everyone,

I've been working with my orgs quarterly mailing list and adding in both individuals and organizations( w/ relationships). The issue is that consituent names and relationship names show up in different columns in export. For our mailing list we need to keep it simple i.e. last name, addressee, address line 1, ect. Does anyone know how to combine the constituent/ relationship columns in export so we don't have to copy and paste in excel? Has anyone had similar difficulties? If anyone can tell me how to solve this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Lorna

  • That's what I've been doing too, only with two seperate queries (one with key indicator =individual, one with key indicator=org). I was wondering if there was a way I could skip that step. Thanks for a your help:)

  • Quick Letters would do this for you, but most of the time it doesn't have all the fields I need so I wind up doing the same as Melissa mentioned.

This is a good point. It's important to remember that the information you want to get out should be related to the tool you use to get it. So if it's a simple mailing list with just address info and the addressee/salutation stuff, then use the Mail module. It'll pull you a clean list that you don't have to fuss

I got tired of all the cutting and pasting. I created a custom report which I export to Excel.

It's just SOP that after the export I go in and tidy up.  Sorting and moving contacts into same column with individuals.  Sorting and making sure international addresses are at the top of the list and separated from the rest.  Little things.  It only takes a couple minutes.
  • Hi, Lorna.  I have some thoughts about
this, but I would like a better visual image of what you are doing,
e.g. what you start with, and what you want. I would be willing to
comment if I can see that.
