Searching by email domain names

In using contact search form, how do I find email address by using email domain name as the key words?  I'm trying to find business email addresses but forgot the whole email address.  Thanks  Randy

  • Hi Randy,

You should be able to do a search using the "%" symbol prior to the domain name you are searching for.

For example, if I want to find everyone with an email address that ends in ...@yahoo.com  then I could put into the search field for email address:  "%@yahoo.com"  and that should give me the results for all users who have an email with @yahoo.com at the end.

    Hope this helps,

    Adam

  • Many thanks for your suggestion, Adam.  It work quite well what I needed to do.  Another question related to this topic. To avoid sending campaign emails to other nonprofit organizations, how would I find email addresses that refer to the extension .org only?  Thanks again Adam.

Randy - I created a Query for you where the term is "email address contains .org".  It appears that 181 constituents have a .org email address. You should be able to find the Query under Data Management and then it is titled .ORG.  From there you can build a group in order to use it. There is also training information that you can use to learn more about the Query tool and it is found here:

    http://customer.convio.com/site/PageServer?pagename=training_downloads  (scroll down to Query).

I would like to know more about the rational for not wanting to send email addresses to other non-profits.  Can you elaborate on that as I can easily imagine why those in the non-profit arena would want to receive your emails...

    Hope all is well.

    Take care,

Sorry for my late response, Jonathan.   My thought is that most nonprofit organizations would not like for their employees to receive our campaign letters at their work.  So I kind of figure that perhaps it would not be wise to upset other organizaitons whom we have a good business relationship with.  Does this sound reasonable or I'm getting parnoided (I hope that I spelled the word right.) Smile.

Forgot to add:  The nonprofit organizations love to get your newsletters but not so sure about the campaigns letters.

Hey Randy - hope you're well!

I don't think you're being too paranoid by thinking to suppress .org addresses from your solicitation messages.  One thing you might consider doing before globally supressing all .org addresses, however, is to take a quick look at whether you have individuals with .org addresses who are currently donors. You can check for this with online donors by querying for donor status and .org in the email address.

It's even better if you can determine this independant of giving channel (combined online and offline giving).  If you already have some donors among your .org addresses, you certainly shouldn't suppress those folks from future appeals.

Randy - I'd definitely agree with Patrick's points but would also mention that a lot of organizations will sign up for likeminded organization's eCommunications so they can get ideas of their own.  If you aren't doing that already, I know it's been a good source of ideas for Yellowstone.

Let us know if you have any other questions on this.
