Sustaining gifts and changing merchant accounts

Options

We're going to be changing merchant accounts, and I know that our existing sustaining donors will need to set up new sustaining gifts.  My question is what exactly will happen to their old sustaining gifts?  Will they actually be cancelled? I am wondering whether the donors will receive the "Sustaining Gift Cancelled" autoresponder or any notification?

Thanks,

Clara

  • Clara, I'm sorry that no one answered your question!  I believe what will happen is that the sustaining gifts on the old merchant account will begin to fail, and the donors will get an autoresponder that tells them that their sustaining gifts has failed.  It might be a good idea for you to manually cancel the old gifts so they don't get confused about which sustaining gifts autoresponders are referring to - after you've secured their commitment to re-submit their gift, of course.

If you choose not to do this, then you might want to edit the Autoresponder to include a link to your new donation form that links to the new merchant account to encourage them to make a new gift.

Thanks, Sally, this is still helpful!
