When to report on/use Action added by or Action Canvasser?

Options
We have recently set KPIs for our fundraisers. We are in the process of assigning Canvassers to constituent records. Currently we are reporting on all Actions added by specific fundraisers (by category and action type). However, we are having issues where we want to define what activity the fundraiser did and what they got volunteers to do for them. Also, it means that if the admin does a global action add or action import it isn't under the added by the fundraiser. We are thinking of adding Action Canvasser to each action so we can see who did the action. This is an additional step for people to remember to do and its not a popular solution. Is this how others use the Action Canvasser button in Actions, to show who did the action? Has anyone had a similar situation and has a good work around? It would be ideal if you added someone as a Canvasser to a record it auto populated the Canvasser on the action and they only had to change it to volunteer if it wasn't them. If we assign a Proposal Canvasser then it auto fills the Canvasser tab but this isn't fool proof because they have to remember to fill in the proposal field.

Thanks for any input.

  • Do your fundraisers use default sets for actions? You could set up templates for your most common sorts of actions, and then when creating a new action your fundraisers would just need to load the correct default in order to pre-populate things like the category, title, status and canvasser name all in one go. It probably won't mean that they never have to remember to select their name on an action ever again, but it could remove a large chunk of work.
  • Thanks for your reply Alan. I have been looking at default sets but the only issue is that the fundraisers are doing lots of different actions all the time (from introductions to thank yous). I think I will look into what they do the most and try creating default sets for that.
  • Gina, that is helpful. I will try that with one of the fundraisers, rather than me setting them up for them.
