I keep uploading e-mail lists into my group but the constituents keep disappearing! Why?

Options

If you are trying to upload a list of constituents into a group and discover find inexplicably that the constituents are no longer in the group, check the group. If the "Group Type" is "Interest Opt-in Groups" or "Interest Opt-out Groups" this is an interests group.  When the interests groups are rebuilt, either via an email send or a nightly server task, anyone who is not opted into the interest directly will be pushed out of the group.  To keep this from happening, you will want to upload these constituents into the interest using the "Segmentation Upload".  That upload will opt the constituents into the interest which will then automatically put the constituents into the interest group.

You can find the "Segmenation Upload" by going to "Data/Management" > "Import/Export" > "All Data Sync Operations".  For help on how to use the "Segmenation Upload" click on the "information" link just below the "Segmenation Upload".

  • Devon is correct, but in addition to the case he outlines you will experience the same issue if you upload names into a query based group. When the query runs it rebuilds the group membership and the names you manually added will disappear. A simple solution is to upload those names into a new group and then add that group to the original query. When the query runs it will add that group into the original target group.
