Grants

Hi, I'm wondering how everyone record grants in RE. What gift type is used.

  • Depends if you have the Prospect module or not. If you do, you track them as Proposals. They are essentially the same process as major gift solicitation, just going to a foundation (typically) instead of an individual or corporation. When the grant application is approved, you can create a pledge, and as the payments come in, record them as Pay-Cash pledge payments.

  • We don't record grants until the actual money is received (and we don't have the Prospect module). So for us, it's a straight-up Cash gift. We will probably in the near future begin using the Gift Code or the Sub-type to delineate that these are Grants, for easier tracking.
  • "Grant Application" is a perfectly viable appeal. If you are using Appeals to track the means by which money was raised, then that is accurate.

They're loaded as pledges or cash.  We do have a gift subtype of grant, but I'm not sure if that's really been used.  You could do that though if you specifically wanted to track grant gifts.  We also have the prospect module where they are loaded as proposals and linked to the gifts - cash, pledge, or pay-cash.
