Fundraising potluck?

I'm really curious to hear more about your plan to have a pot luck fundraiser? I can't image how that works. Please tell us more!

  • The virtual potluck is a national social event for NMAI members and constituents to gather together and not only celebrate the National Musuem of the American Indian's (NMAI) 20th anniversary (as well as our other 3 anniversaries), but raise funds for the museum.

November 28th marks the 20 year anniversary of the signing of the legislation that created the musuem.  It also is Native American heritage day.

We are going to ask people to “host” a potluck (virtually or in actuality).  Hosts will become fundraising ambassadors to the museum and invite their family and friends to donate to NMAI using TeamRaiser.

We are going to work with many other departments at the musuem to utilize and highlight existing programs, such as webcasting some events during our foodways program on November 28, that will take place at the Mall museum facility. We are going to have links to NMAI's YouTube channel and encourage people to show some of the videos during their potluck.

The goal being to bring the NMAI community throughout the country into the local communities.  We have 3 phyical buildings, and we call our 4th musuem our outreach programs to local communities around the country, so this is one way to work with that exisiting idea.

Basically, I think we are the only musuem who has ever tried to do this, and we know that we are on new ground, hopefully, it will be a success for us.

    I welcome any ideas.

Thanks for the info. This sounds like a great idea, especially for a national organization. I don't have any suggestions at the moment, but I'm going to ask the other people in our development group and will post any that I get back.
