How to find Charity number of organization in United State?

I need to record organization charity status in Raiser's Edge. How can I find charity number in IRS (organization in states)?

Did you try entering that exact question in your browser search window?  When I cut and pasted it, it pulled several sources. Guidestar gives you a few free, don't know what there fees are.  On the IRS site if you click in enough times you can download a complete list of orgs.

Can you reach out to the organizations and have them send it to you? If you have email addresses you could just BCC everybody and let them know you need the info for your records.

Thank you, I can. I just don't want bother donor two much. For canadian organization, it's very easy to find it on CRA website. I though it should be easy to find it in IRS. But somestime I found it's not. I though American residents people have more experience on it

Hi.  This website does a nice job.  All you have to enter is the name and nothing else.  You don't even have to enter the whole name.  Give it a try. http://501c3lookup.org/

I have a free account at guidestar.org. Search for a charity and open any of their 990s - the EIN is at top.
