Community Foundation entering "other givers" into database

Options
Hi,

We currently enter all donors and prospects into RE. We also enter all "other givers" since we're a community foundation. These other givers are donating to our agency endowments or our fiscal sponsorship funds, for example. It's convenient to have all of this information stored in RE, however, there are a couple problems. First, we have about 5,000 constituents when probably only 2,500-3,000 of those are "our" donors and prospects. Second, it's more information to sort through when running queries, pulling reports, etc. I would be curious to know how other community foundations using RE handle this.

Thanks,

Lauren

  • If you repeatedly segment these people out when pulling reports, etc., I would suggest a Constituent code or an Attribute marking these people as "Other Organization Givers", so that you can filter them out easily while running reports and queries. Otherwise, I would say it's definitely nice to keep them in your system - if they gave to your agency endowment, they should make good prospects for your own appeals and events, as long as you can demonstrate the connection.

Unless you are on RE NXT, I wouldn't worry about having 5,000 constituent records. We have over 30,000 and still growing. The more the merrier!

Hi Faith! Thanks so much. We currently utilize a fund group to pull just our donors in queries and reports. Helpful to know others are entering all gifts as well. -Lauren
