If it is a MG made with company funds, we usually send the company a thank you/receipt letter thanking them for offering the MG program and for the gift that they made as a match to John Smith. No tax statements or $ amount if gift is through another receipting agent like UW.

Thanks JoAnn! Do you send directly to the MG company vs the Benevity, UW, EasyMatch address? And, if sending directly, what department do you send to?

We send them to the MG company.  If we use a department something like 'Employee Matching Gift Program'.

Those are all conduits that just get the $$ to you.  The donors are those that had the gifts deducted from their payroll and their companies that have matching gift programs.  I do not acknowledge the conduits, only the donors and the companies that match their gifts.

Hello, we also just acknowledge the donor, not the MG company since we do see them as the conduit as well. Often we see language asking us not to send the company a reciept.  The letter to the donor does not include charitable gift language, but does include the amount and designation.

    My best,

    Jane

  • Be careful - sometimes the conduits supply a tax receipt when the donation is made/received by them.
