how to opt out / unsubscribe of discussions

Hello!


This could be a Holly's Helpful Tips suggestion


When I reply to a discussion I am automatically opted in to 'subscribing' so I have to remember to unsubscribe or I get emails constantly


Where is the setting to turn that off (i.e. so I have to opt in to subscribe instead of opting out)


I know how to opt out (click on Unsubscribe to this Topic within the discussion string and select off)

Hi Joanne! Happy New Year!


While there isn't a way for you to opt out of our auto-subscribe when you reply to a discussion (that's a best practice for any social site), there migtht be a way to control this a little.


If you subscribe to the entire category in your subscription settings (found on the MyCommunity page), your category subscription (we suggest daily digests) should overwrite the auto-subscribe setting. The plus side of this is that you can minimize the number of emails you get in a day (hooray!). The down side of this is that you will now get a digest of every post made in that entire category for that day. Most of the time that's not a bad thing, but categories like this one that get A TON of posts in a day can get super overwhelming.

You're in the right place. If you select "daily digests" next to the Raiser's Edge General Discussions (below the RENXT categories), that will subscribe you to a daily digest of everything that posts in the general discussions category. It will also overwrite the "instant notifications" that you get for any conversation in the general discussion category and place all of those in that daily digest as well.

It is confusing.  If you elect None on this screen, then you get Instant for everything you post on.  If you select Daily (or Weekly, I think), then you will no longer get the Instant for threads you post on.


I ended up doing Instant for almost everything and setting up a filter in my email Inbox to shove those into a separate folder when the Community settings changed and I could no longer read through a newsfeed of new posts AND posts with new comments.  Now, I get the emails, and can click thru to the post.  A little extra work, and I don't Like as many posts & comments as I used to (because I have to click in the email to go to the post to click Like), but it works fairly well.

Actually I think I figured out how to turn it off - under notifications



Unchecking the discussion subscription option (I think)


In any case it is shut off and that makes me happy
