Identifying Board Contacts to each Major Donor

Options
Each of our major donors has a specific Board Member who is their 'contact'.  When I run a query of our major donors, I want to be able to see who their board member contact is.  When a check comes in from a major donor, we want to notify their board contact.  My question is - where is the best (easiest) place to identify a board member contact for each of our major donors.  Thank you!!

  • Jen Claudy:

Make the board member a Solicitor for the major donor.  Use a specific Solicitor Type to separate from staff solicitor assignments.

Thanks Jen.  Where do you complete the 'solicitor' option for a donor?  If I go to PROSPECT in the donors record, I can open a new proposal and put someone there, but can't find an option to just add a contact/solicitor.  Thank  you

  • Solicitor are on the Relationship Tab.  You will probably first want to mark your board members as Solicitors (which is on Bio1 Tab at the bottom right) and then you can assign constituents from there or from the constituent's Relationship Tab.  Since you haven't worked with this feature before, I would strongly recommend setting up a few records and then playing around with the various reports (and maybe some queries and exports...whatever you think you'll want to use to pull that data out again).  Once you have your data set up in a way that works for your purposes, then move forward with setting up the rest of your records.

Even if you don't have a BB Training Subscription, there are some free videos available to you.  Nothing that jumps out specifically about Relationships or Solicitors, but you might find them helpful.  Check out this link to a clickable pdf...the ones with the green icon are on-demand videos.

Thank you!!!  We did not have solicitor on this tab, so I added it.  Make this much easier.  Thank you for the help!

  • Agreed - solicitor. Add them to the records and then to each gift as they come in.
  • Marge - what do you mean by you "added it". Solicitor relationships should already be an option. Did you add a new individual relationship type or a new solicitor type for board members?
  • I agree that adding the solicitor relationship is the way to go!
