  • Joanne -

Every time I bring up the topic of 'trimming down our Annotations' I get suggestions to add even more !!!!!!

I feel your pain, Joanne! Both soft credits and annotations can get a bit rough. You're always welcome to vent here!

I have to admit, I thought you were starting a fun game of Raiser's Edge "Would You Rather" with your thread and was super excited!
  • Actual Annotations or Business Rule alerts?  You can set Business Rules to apply only to specific Security Groups.  I did that, so I don't see "Employee" or "Board Member" anymore, but everyone else still does.
  • We have business rule alerts on top of more business rule alerts on top of annotations -- it's quite something!

  • I once worked with someone who had a habit of adding Annotations for things to remember when mailing our next appeal.  Could never get him to understand that I don't pull Annotations and read thru them all when pulling mailing lists.  Most of ours don't pop up automatically anymore...which is helpful.
  • We've just started using annotations in the last couple of weeks - can anyone give me the heads up as to why I'm going to find these annoying 6 months down the line? I'd thought that maybe they weren't easy to report on but I've just checked and they're visible in both query and export.
  • Thanks Faith. I think we're only going to use them in extreme circumstances, so hopefully they won't get too irritating (famous last words!)
  • Annotations, definitely!  It's so frustrating when adjusting a gift record and that annoying thing pops up each time I open another tab!  Ugh!

  • I hate soft credits more, however...

I hate user annotations more than business rule annotations.  Some users seem to think annotation is a form of email and they leave messages like "they want to update their phone number to 555-5555", or they think they are actions "had a great meeting with him, someone should probably follow up in February".  Sigh.
  • Just double-checked - in the way we're using NXT they show as a translucent grey Alert, top-right of the Constituent record, and you can do things in the record without having to dismiss it. So maybe there's hope for the future :-)

But I so feel everyone's pain - our outgoing DB manager spent an hour cleaning Salutations/Addressees for a mailing, so put an Alert on all records for users to check the Salutation and Addressee. I growled about it immediately, and after a day it was taken off, thankfully. My point was that a few hundred records with problems, compared to the thousands that were OK, meant so much pointless annoyance.
