Write Offs Affecting Query Results

Options
Just wrote a quick Query to look for Constituents with Gifts after 7/1/2016 that are still marked Not Acknowledged and do not have a Gift Constituency of Dummy Record.  Looked at the results and saw two names that shouldn't be there.  So I went to the Gifts Tab of those records, and couldn't see what was causing this.  Then it occurred to me...each of these has a Pledge with a Write Off and they were done recently, after I had to go back to actually using Write Offs instead of Adjustments because of NXT.  If I delete the Write Off, the record disappears from the Query.  Without me changing anything else on the Gift Record.  But then I put the Write Off back on, and the Record appears again in my Query.

I know, in this case, I can just ignore those two records or add Criteria to exclude Gifts with Write Offs, but is there anything anyone can think of that might help?  I don't see anything resembling Gift Constituency or Acknowledgement Status fields on the Write Off screen, but perhaps they're hidden somewhere?

  • I would add Gift Type does not equal Write Off to the criteria.

I guess my real question is, why should I need to do that?  If a Pledge is marked Acknowledged and then part of it is written off, and there's no field (that I see) to mark the Write Off as Acknowledged, then shouldn't the Gift still be marked as Acknowledged?

Probably just a mystery of RE...and another reason to dislike Write Offs altogether.  =)

I found that RE records write offs as gifts "behind the scenes." They don't appear on the gifts tab but pop up in queries/reports/exports.

"Probably just a mystery of RE."  Yep.  Write-offs also do really strange things with split gifts.  All of these issues have been added to the "wish list" for features/fixes in future versions of RE but Blackbaud seems to be struggling with even the simplest changes I don't hold much hope that I'll see these things fixed before I retire.
