Pulling a constituent list by metro codes

Options
I am new to RE and I need to pull a list of constituents by metro code that include the following:
  • first name
  • last name
  • maiden name
  • address
  • city
  • state
  • zip
  • email address
  • phone
This list will then be used for an email blast to invite a group of alumni from that particular area to an event.  I have been given so many different ways to do it and it's so time consuming!  Please help!

  • I assume you already have metro codes in RE somewhere and can query on them, so I would run a query of

    Metro Code is <ask>

Constituency Code equals Alumni (or however you have that stored)

    Email is Not Blank

Along with any other criteria (Solicit Code does not equal do not email, requests no email equals no, etc.) that you may need. Save the query, then create an export using that query and include the fields you need. When you run it, you'll be asked to fill in the Metro Code and you can use "equals New York City", or whatever code you need, and it will pull the NYC people, then export again, this time using "equals Los Angeles" and it will pull LA people, and on and on until you've pulled all of the metro codes you need.

I always include Import IDs with exports, which makes it easy to import any codes to the group, or add them to the event, or if you need to add other things to the export later.

  • Thank you for your suggestion.  However, from my understanding metro codes were not imported in RE when we converted to the new system.  At this time, i can pull by state and sort by city but I have to go to a map to find the city's that I need.  I have also been told to use Zip Code finder and type in all the zip codes in the area that I want to pull, but that just seem ridiculously long and time consuming.

Thank you for reaching out...I appreciate it.

  • That's no fun. If you want to send me you're email address, I can send you the list of Zip Code ranges and regions that I have. If you need to make you're own, I'd recommend this site: https://www.freemaptools.com/find-zip-codes-inside-radius.htm, then using it to create ranges instead of using individual ZIP codes. It might cast a slighted wider circle than you want, but it will save you a ton of time. You can then use the ranges to do a global change and add a region to addresses. I keep my list posted on my cubicle wall and reference it whenever I add or change an address and try to do global changes a few times a year.

  • Yes, please send me what you can. My email is

    Thank you so much!!

I use this site:  http://www.getzips.com/county.htm to find the zip codes to the different counties/cities and/or states and if you copy and paste them into excel you can sort them numerically and then include in your query Zip code Begins with... and put the first three digits that apply.  Or if you need to be more specific, you can import the zips into the query, but still be sure to use Begins with NOT equals, because you will not get the +4 zips with equals

Hi, Christy. Here's another free source: https://www.freemaptools.com/find-zip-codes-inside-radius.htm. You input a central zip code in a city and add the radius you want to include in the results. Their program comes back with all the ZIP codes in 5-digit format, and you have the options of getting a CSV file or a list. I just copy the list the paste it into a filter for ZIP is one of...
