  • Super excited about this month's Need to Know as soft credits are abundant at Fenway Healthcare - and the bane of my existance

The best tip I got was when creating a query based on giving make sure to go to Tools --> Query Options --> Gift Processing (tab) and Credit Soft Credits to Both selecting Use amount in grid

If doing a summary of gift in an export, select the same thing on the lower right of the general tab within the gift details of the summary (and any gifts you are exporting as well)
  • Despite Raiser’s Edge’s Gift-Type nomenclature of MG Pledge and MG Pay-…, we don’t view a Matching-Gift Pledge as the same kind of animal for accounting purposes as a Pledge: A Pledge is a donor’s commitment suitable for recording on the general ledger as a receivable; an MG Pledge simply represents an application to a donor’s employer for a matching gift, which it’s free to accept or reject.  So while we certainly use the MG Pledge and MG Pay- functionality to track our matching-gift expectancies and fulfillments, we do not transmit MG Pledges to the general ledger.  For MG Pay- entries, we set up each Fund’s debit and credit account numbers on the GL Distributions tab to be identical to the numbers we use for outright gifts, so an MG Pay- item fulfills an MG pledge in Raiser’s Edge, yet registers as an outright gift in the financial accounting system.
